Motorcycle accidents frequently result in serious injuries due to the limited protection that is available to riders. When other drivers fail to notice motorcycles, when weather conditions are poor, when motorcycle defects occur and when other driver negligence results in an accident, it is important that injured riders take the right steps to protect themselves.
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2006, 13.10 cars out of 100,000 ended up in fatal crashes. The rate for motorcycles is 72.34 per 100,000 registered motorcycles. Motorcycles also have a higher fatality rate per unit of distance traveled when compared with automobiles. Per vehicle mile traveled, motorcyclists’ risk of a fatal crash is 35 times greater than a passenger car.
A national study by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATS) found that:
- Motorcycle rider death rates have consistently increased among all rider age groups since 1998.
- Motorcycle rider deaths are nearly 30 times more than drivers of other vehicles.
- Motorcycle riders aged below 40 are 36 times more likely to be killed than other vehicle operators of the same age.
- Motorcycle riders aged 40 years and over are around 20 times more likely to be killed than other drivers of that same age.
- According to the Hurt Report, approximately 75% of motorcycle accidents involved collisions with another vehicle, which were most often passenger automobiles.
Additional data from the United States reveals that more than 8% of all U.S. households own a motorcycle.. Motorcycle fatalities represent approximately five percent of all highway fatalities each year, yet motorcycles represent just two percent of all registered vehicles in the United States. One of the main reasons motorcyclists are killed in crashes is because the motorcycle itself provides virtually no protection in a crash. For example, approximately 80 percent of reported motorcycle crashes result in injury or death; a comparable figure for automobiles is about 20 percent.

I have the experience as a motorcycle accident lawyer to provide the right representation and legal guidance my clients need. Do not allow an insurance company to tell you how to value your injury during a claim. Please give me a call.
I can help you make the right decisions about your case and help you avoid potentially limiting your possible benefits. You may have a lot to think about after an accident regarding medical treatment, motorcycle insurance, and what the law says about your rights to compensation.
If motorcycle riders do not garner appropriate attention and respect on the roadways, similar things may be said about how they are treated by insurance companies and their attorneys. Given the perception of bikers that speed, weave in and out of traffic, and otherwise take risks with their driving, some insurance companies may try to mitigate damages against innocent bikers who have been seriously injured in accidents.
I will provide the respect that you deserve. I will look at the short-term and long-term medical and financial consequences of the accident, as well as all possible sources of compensation. Contact me today for a complimentary case consultation.
